The Philippine Nutrition Month

“Healthy Diet Gawing Affordable For All”

Nutrition Month is an annual event celebrated in the Philippines every July. Organized by the National Nutrition Council (NNC), it aims to raise awareness about the importance of healthy eating and good nutrition among Filipinos. The theme for this year’s celebration is “Healthy Diet Gawing Affordable For All.”
The campaign highlights the need to support Filipinos in gaining better access to affordable, healthy diets to reduce malnutrition, improve food security, and enhance overall quality of life. Many Filipinos face challenges in accessing nutritious food due to financial limitations and lack of availability. To address this, the government, in partnership with organizations, continues to advocate for healthier food options and policies.

During the celebration, schools, workplaces, and communities organize activities such as nutrition education camps, cooking demonstrations, healthy eating challenges, and seminars to encourage Filipinos to embrace better food habits.
A Look Back: Nutrition Month was first declared in July 1974 by President Ferdinand Marcos. Since then, it has become a yearly tradition that raises awareness on the importance of good nutrition and inspires Filipinos to adopt healthier lifestyles.
The current global health crisis further emphasizes the importance of good nutrition and balanced living. A healthy diet can boost the immune system and reduce risks of chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and obesity.

Tips for Maintaining a Healthy Lifestyle

  • Eat a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins.
  • Join workshops on healthy eating and meal planning—consult nutritionists and dietitians for expert advice.
  • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and avoiding sugary drinks.
  • Get 7–8 hours of sleep daily to maintain good physical and mental health.
  • Manage stress through exercise, meditation, or other relaxation techniques.
  • Avoid harmful habits such as smoking and excessive alcohol consumption.
  • Schedule regular health check-ups to catch and prevent health issues early.
Let us make the most of Nutrition Month by embracing healthier choices, prioritizing well-being, and seeking professional advice when needed. A healthy lifestyle is possible—with awareness, effort, and support.
